Regional Government Services and its staff are conducting the recruitment on behalf of the City of Walnut Creek ABOUT THE POSITION Under general supervision, performs complex sub-professional accounting work; maintains a variety of financial records related to payroll; prepares statements, reports, and reconciliations; and performs related work as required.

Understand the importance of transparency and promote policies that enhance trust while at the same time maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

Experience:
Graduation from high school supplemented by coursework in accounting, and a minimum of two years of experience in a clerical accounting position, including experience with automated payroll processing systems; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of payroll preparation and management Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices Knowledge of data processing requirements associated with automated payroll systems Skill in the operation of computer terminal, calculator, and copy machine Skill in communicating effectively in English both orally and in writing Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others Ability to learn, understand, and apply municipal finance systems, processes, and their interrelationships Ability to interpret and apply applicable state and federal payroll regulations, and City rules and regulations Ability to plan and carry out duties independently Ability to maintain and prepare accurate records and reports Ability to effectively utilize computer applications and technology related to the work Supplemental Information SELECTION PROCESS Applications must be submitted on-line through this applicant tracking system.
