Regional full service Environmental Consulting firm specializing in EPA Project soil and groundwater investigation, remediation and compliance projects actively seeks seasoned and experienced Environmental Engineer / Remedial Design Engineer with EPA Superfund Site Remedial Action project experience for our Walnut Creek, California office.
This is a long term, full time and career advancing Environmental Project Manager opportunity to join our award winning and prestigious Environmental Remediation Division servicing the EPA Region 9 Superfund Site in the Bay Area.
This Environmental Engineer / Remedial Design Engineer will participate in broad range of environmental engineering and design duties pertaining to remediation action for this Superfund Site in the Bay Area. Including but not limited to:
Provide engineering and environmental compliance support for design, construction, and operation of soil and groundwater remediation systems located at former waste sites and operating chemical manufacturing facilities
Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency guidance documents and specifications
Evaluate site conditions and recommends remediation technologies to address remedial action objectives
Prepare remediation technologies include containment (i.e., engineered covers/caps, sheet pile barrier walls, slurry-walls, hydraulic controls), in-situ treatment (i.e., soil vapor extraction, chemical oxidation, stabilization, thermal), and ex-situ treatment (soil and sludge stabilization, dig and haul, soil thermal treatment, groundwater treatment)
Prepare feasibility studies and regulatory design submittals
Prepare design drawings and specifications, permit applications, construction bid packages and cost estimates
Evaluate contractor proposals
Prepare cost tracking documents and contract administration
Review and coordinate construction documents
Interact with contractor personnel; management of waste residual
Plan and provide technical support for construction and start-up activities; and technical support for operations activities
Environmental Engineer / Remedial Design Engineer Qualification & Experience Requirements:
Environmental Engineer / Remedial Design Engineer must have a minimum of Ten (10+) years of environmental consulting industry work experience and ideally have some experience pertaining to in-situ heating remedial technology. Must have engineering and project management experience with soil and groundwater remediation feasibility studies, remedial design, construction, and operation.
Experience with federal superfund (CERCLA) and RCRA corrective action remediation programs as well as state cleanup regulations
Demonstrated experience in wide range of containment and in-situ and ex-situ treatment technologies throughout all phases of project from feasibility study through implementation and O&M
Demonstrated oversight and leadership for system tie-ins, start-up, operator training, O&M manuals, and project close-out
Must have prior soil and groundwater environmental investigation and remediation system design experience.
Environmental Engineer must have prior EPA Superfund Site Remediation project experience & must have strong proven technical report writing skills.
Must have experience overseeing environmental project consultants and subcontractors.
Must have Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Environmental Engineering, or other closely related engineering field. (Extensive directly related environmental consulting industry experience can substitute the lack of a degree for this position.)
Current Registration as a Professional Engineer, PE in California is strongly preferred but not required.
Current 40 Hour HAZWOPER is preferred.
Must have good environmental staff mentorship skills.
Ideal Environmental Engineer / Remedial Design Engineer will have past professional environmental consulting industry experience performing a wide array of tasks to support environmental investigation and remediation projects including procurement, remedial design, construction oversight, start-up/implementation, QC, data analysis and reporting.
